SCPE was originally published by NOVA Science Publishers as Parallel and Distributed Computing Practices (PDCP). The first issue appeared in March 1998. NOVA has published 5 volumes of PDCP and then our path have parted. Since volume 6 our journal is being published by Warsaw School of Social Psychology, Poland.

Here we were facing a tough decision. By the time of the change of publisher we were seriously behind in publishing. We had therefore to decide what to do next. First, we have decided to change the name of the journal to: Scalable Computing: Practice and Experience. The we have decided to continue the numbering sequence, but put the correct publication date. Thus, the first issue of SCPE was publised as Volume 6 Number 1, March 2005.

With volume 6 we have also changed the publication form. Following recent trends in publishing SCPE became an electronic only journal. We are still a fully refereed (by at least 2 referees) ISSN bearing publication (ISSN 1895-1767), but we have resigned from the paper form of publication. SCPE provides an avenue for publication of original refereed papers. The areas of primary interest involve algorithm development, implementation and execution on real-world parallel and distributed architectures, application of parallel and distributed computing to the solution of real-life problems.
